Stila and I have a love hate relationship. After purchasing this foundation on the recommendation of a Sephora employee it’s been rocky since then. I can’t decide if I love it or if it’s simply a bad purchase. I’m not like most people who buy many foundations at once, I buy one and stick to it. After noticing my Mac foundation only matched my skin during summer, I needed one for Winter and Spring.
I’ve noticed the foundation dries super matte and peels around my cheeks and chin depending on how I apply it. I’ve never used a matte foundation so I think my skin just doesn’t agree with how dry it is. I have used a beauty blender, It Cosmetics foundation brush, Sigma foundation brush and a condom with a beauty blender in it. While applying my foundation, the beauty blender inside the condom worked well. I noticed that it left my skin smooth and there wasn’t any peeling around my cheeks and chin.
Stila stay all day foundation claims to be long wear, high definition, full coverage with a matte finish. I won’t disagree with any of these things because they are 100% accurate. Among many things these were some of them I loved about the foundation. Stila claims to be a blendable formula which evens skin tone, minimize the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles. I however did not agree with a few of these things.
After applying Stila’s foundation around my lip and chin there was the appearance of a dark area. I also noticed that the foundation seeped into my pores if not applied with a skin equalizer. Stila foundation claims is to be an oxygenating formula with botanical extracts and antioxidants which promote healthy- looking skin. I don’t know how many people found their skin to be healthier after using Stila’s foundation. My skin didn’t show any change from using the foundation so I’m not sure how well the botanical extracts work.
I’m not going to completely give up on this foundation, after all it did cost $40. But I do think it works better if you have oily skin. I noticed the foundation worked better in my t-zone and my outer face where my skin tends to be oily. My cheeks and chin didn’t take well to it which is usually where my skin is extremely dry. I’m going to keep my Stila but also try another foundation that’s not a matte finish. When I’m able to get a chemical peel on my face I’ll revisit Stila’s foundation. If you’ve used Stila’s Stay All Day Foundation please let me know your thoughts on it.
I have oily skin so I may try this one now that my Lancôme Teint Idole is running out. Love your photography! X
How do you like your Lancome Foundation? I need to pick up a new foundation. Also thanks so much, I try to make sure my pictures are professional looking.
I love it so much – it’s got a great coverage, which is buildable and the finish is really nice.
Keep up the good work x
Okay, thanks so much. I’m going to pick it up soon. 🙂
I really appreciate this review. I have oily skin so I might actually give this foundation a try since I use a lot of matte products for my face!
Hi Tara. If you do try it let me know.
Thank you for being honest! I’ve never heard of putting a condom on the beauty blender. Interesting hack.
You’re welcome. It works really well.
This was really thorough!
How interesting. I’m a bit oily, so this might be it for me! Thanks for sharing – I’ll check it out!
The only matte that works for me is strangely inexpensive – Revlon Color Stay. I’ve tried so many. But, I’m leaning to trying IT products next. 🙂
