When I was younger, I would drag my mom to the library at least twice a week. I loved being able to get lost in a good book. Every time the scholastic book fair came around I would beg my parents to give me money for books. I remember my parents always commenting on how my sister and I would have our heads buried in a book. Life was simpler then and it was easier to read for pleasure as opposed to reading for knowledge. As an adult I now try to read as an opportunity to learn new things. Here are five books that I am currently obsessed with right now and think that every woman who wants to be her own boss should read.
You Are a Badass By Jen Sincero
I first heard about You Are a Badass this year. I was going through a lot that I even began to doubt myself a hundred percent. But one youtuber I follow, Marissa Lace mentioned this book in her year of you haul. Thanks to her recommending this book, I’ve become completely motivated to focus on my inner self. It’s a self-improvement book that talks about how sometimes you have to do things you’ve never done in order to live the life you want to live. You can’t focus on why everything is going wrong, you just have to kick butt and keep pushing.
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? By Mindy Kaling
I’ve always been a huge fan of Mindy since watching her on the Mindy Project. She’s hilariously herself in this book and it’s written as if you’re having a conversation with your best friend. Mindy’s honest about her life, romance and friendships. If you love to read then do that, but this book is also available in audio and Mindy is the narrator.
If You Have to Cry, Go Outside by Kelly Cutrone & Merdith Bryan
Through this book Kelly shows women how to make it in the working world without selling out. She’s brutally honest and gives advice that everyone can apply to their lives. Not only that she talks to you about surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals. As well as when you are at your lowest point that it doesn’t mean a breakdown but a break through. I highly recommend reading this book, trust me it will change the way you view your brand.
#GirlBoss By Sophia Amoruso
I know everyone raves about this book and I can completely see why. Sophia talks about how success is not defined by your popularity in high school but rather following your gut. It’s about taking chances, following rules but also breaking them if necessary.
